Marco Forgione

Director General of Institute of Export & International Trade

Following graduation from LSE with a degree in Geography, Marco’s first role was as parliamentary assistant to the then Shadow Minister of Environment and Urban Affairs. Whilst in this role he was appointed as the Secretary to the Enquiry into Urban Policy, City 2020. On leaving Westminster he took a short break travelling in India and the US. On his return Marco was appointed to bring about commercial success and membership growth to the Landscape Institute, the Royal Chartered Institute for Landscape Designers. During Marco’s time with the Institute revenues increased by 300% through the development of new online and offline platforms, publications and events. Marco was also successful in lobbying for the introduction of the European Landscape Convention and won the contract to host the International Landscape World Congress, which was hosted in Edinburgh. After the Landscape Institute, Marco moved into the education sector helping transform the non-statutory funded provision at Canterbury College, including apprenticeships, business training schemes, internationally funded programmes and business partnerships. In 2008 Marco was appointed as CEO at the International Visual Communication Association, where he established the Association as a key partner with UK Trade & Investment, leading trade missions to UAE, Qatar, China, Germany and India. In 2014 Marco led the merger of the International Visual Communication Association with Eventia, the corporate events association, to create EVCOM, the leading creative corporate communication association. From 2015 to 2020 Marco led BADA, the British Antique Dealers’ Association, helping transform century old association, including through the creation of the fastest growing on-line platform in the sector. BADA was actively involved in lobbying governments in the UK and overseas on a range of trade issues including the US tariffs on Chinese antiques, Anti-money laundering, Cultural goods and quarterly reporting. Marco began his new role as Director General at the Institute of Export & International Trade in January 2020.
