Guy Rigby

Chair, Entrepreneurial Services Services at Smith & Williamson

Guy is a qualified chartered accountant, author and mentor. A natural and driven enthusiast, he built and sold his own accountancy firm, as well as pursuing other commercial interests. He has been a director and part owner of a variety of companies, including businesses in the IT, property, defence, manufacturing and retail sectors. In an unusually varied career, he has been the senior partner of two accountancy firms, a finance director, a sales and marketing director and a professional adviser acting for multiple entrepreneurial businesses and their owners.

Guy joined Smith & Williamson in 2008 and founded its Entrepreneurial Services Group. This activity helped Smith & Williamson become a destination for entrepreneurs seeking commercial, accountancy, tax and corporate finance advice. Having built the group over ten years, he moved into the role of Chair in 2018. His role is now part-time and his day to day activities include overseeing strategy and providing advice to entrepreneurs and their businesses.

Alongside his role at Smith & Williamson, Guy has set up his own consultancy trading as The Entrepreneurs’ Adviser.

Guy has been listed as one of the top 50 movers and shakers in the financial world by Economia magazine and his book, From Vision to Exit – The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Building and Selling a Business, received significant critical acclaim. In addition, he has often written and provided comment for the press, has been interviewed on Bloomberg TV and on radio and has been regularly quoted in, for example, the FT, The Times and The Telegraph, as well as multiple entrepreneurial publications.

Guy’s Atlantic Challenge

In December 2021, Guy will attempt to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic in The Entrepreneur Ship, a 24-foot rowing boat, to raise money for UnLtd – The Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs. In doing so, he and his rowing partner, David Murray, hope to become the oldest pair ever to row any ocean.
